Testimonials

Stormy

"Here it is, seven months later, and [Stormy’s] trip still brings her so much happiness. I cannot ever thank the people involved in making her so happy ever enough. I’ve seen so many tears and fears in her eyes and on her face, more than a lifetime’s worth, but now I see so many smiles and “oh remember..” moments when her face lights up, it just chokes me up.  Those involved probably cannot imagine how it makes a parent feel to see a child that has faced so many fears, now be so happy. Our family really needed to find a new strength and a renewel of faith and you gave us that. Thank you again for everything."

Love always,
Stormy’s mother

“I know I’ll always have heart problems, and that there will always be another surgery out there waiting for me, but this trip gave me so much happiness,” said Stormy. “My family and I actually got to go somewhere where there were no doctors waiting to see me or x-rays waiting.  You gave me so much more than just a trip, than just a wish-come-true — you gave me a chance to ‘live,’ and I got to see my family happy and not worrying about me.  You gave me so very, very much.”

Amberrose

WE HAD A BLAST!  We are still talking about our experience/trip.  It was such an indescribable blessing.  Amber got to meet with Goofy and that was so much fun.

On a personal note, I truly wanted to thank you for all the work you both did in making Amber's wish come true.  The Make-A-Wish organization is an amazing program.  Amber has suffered physically her whole life, and we watched helplessly as she battled with the lung disease.  It is so scary to watch her struggle to breathe.  It was hard on all of us.  But the amazing thing that has truly touched all our hearts is that she has never been bitter about her illness, her heart remained and remains tender and thankful.  Children are so precious and amazing and that is why I am very thankful for this program and what they do for children.  You are my heroes.  :)  Amber was so happy and elated for her trip to Disneyland that she couldn't sleep the nights before we left.  Her wish that came true was so awesome.

Brianna

"Brianna has definitely grown a lot from her wish experience. She always had a positive attitude but tended towards the shy side when we have visited whether in the comfort of her home or in the treatment room at the hospital. She is now so outgoing! Her social workers can't believe how open she has become as prior to her wish she had barely said a few words to them.  As soon as we got to their home, we were greeted by Brianna and her Disney Princess Photo Album/Autograph book from breakfast!"

Cody

"Cody was treated so special by everyone at Make-A-Wish, Disney World and Give Kids the World.  It brought him a lot of enjoyment, and he loves to tell people about seeing Mickey Mouse.  It was a bright spot in the middle of a ton of stress."

Makenna

The most memorable aspects of Makenna's wish -- "Seeing Mickey and his house, being together as a family and  we weren't in the hospital."

"It allowed her to just be a kid and enjoy herself and her sisters in an attempt to forget all the cancer stuff. It gave us a moment to just "be," enjoy a new place and each other."

I am extremely honored and excited to share a bit about the significance of having our own Montana chapter of Make-A-Wish available to grant wishes for Montana kids dealing with difficult medical conditions.  As a general pediatrician here in Billings, I have the privilege of caring for kids mostly when they are well and receiving their shots.  But, occasionally I have a front row seat with a family who is dealing with a tough medical diagnosis.  These families have the daunting task of navigating the complicated medical system in a rural state.   They have to become an expert of a disease no parent expects to know much about.  They live in a constant state of hyperawareness to their child's condition.  They wonder how long this remission is going to last, what's going to be the next setback, what is going to happen next?  All of this takes its toll.

But, here in Montana, we are all about resiliance.  I see these families lift their heads high and face their circumstances with amazing dignity.  The kids are incredible, usually being the true teachers and models of strength in such adversity.

You know in medical school, I never learned of any medication that could provide a dose of hope.  But, the power of a wish can.  Whether to become a princess for a day, meet a bull rider, or take a trip to Disney World, these wishes break through the routine of medical treatments, often painful and scary to kids, and gives them that whopping dose of hope they need to keep on smiling and keep on going.  Please partner with me in providing something no doctor can --- Hope.  Thank you.
