Jak, age 4, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a life-threatening malignant tumor, during his year three well-child checkup. He’s endured extensive chemotherapy and 16 surgeries in his young life.
Jak has spent too much of his childhood being sidelined by treatments and hospital stays. But his life was changed when his dream came true to swim with dolphins.
Jak – who loves everything to do with animals and water – wanted to swim with a dolphin, and Make-A-Wish® Montana set out to make that dream come true. Jak used sea shells to count down the days to his Florida trip but never in his whole four years could he have anticipated the number of shells on an actual beach.
When he touched the dolphin for the first time, Jak couldn’t stop smiling. “It feels like rubber,” he said. According to his parents, the trip was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for all of them, including Jak’s brother and sister. “After a year of chemotherapy, treatment and surgery, it was a very welcome vacation,” his mom said. “A true family experience.”
After returning home to Montana, Jak and his siblings decided they would like to move to Florida to play on the beaches every day.
